Don't create a heat log unless there's something worth logging.
Mild workdays should not burn out foremen. RestShade watches forecasts, records action days automatically, and marks everything else all clear. Most days you do nothing. When heat, smoke, or cold thresholds cross, it flags the site and tells you what needs a signed log.
The problem
Daily log mandates burn out foremen. Inspectors still ask what happened on the hot Tuesday, not whether you filed paperwork on a mild morning when nothing triggered.
How RestShade helps
RestShade defaults to action-day logging: below-threshold days stay quiet, threshold crossings trigger the duty list and notification. Switch to daily mode in Settings if your shop wants every workday signed.
What you walk away with
- Forecast watch without a morning weather ritual
- Action-day missing flags match what Cal/OSHA and NEP inspectors ask about
- Optional daily mode if your shop wants a signed log every workday
What RestShade handles
- Default: log when shade, high heat, smoke, or NEP thresholds cross
- All clear when conditions stay below those lines
- Washington smoke logs at PM2.5 35.5, with training nudges below that
- Switch to every workday in Settings or during company setup
How it works
- RestShade watches site forecasts Thresholds for heat, smoke, and NEP are evaluated in the background for every active site.
- Action days get flagged and recorded When a crossing happens, Today shows log missing and the duty list waits for a supervisor sign-off.
- Mild days stay all clear No log required unless you want one. The packet still shows what happened on hot days when asked.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a log on a mild day? Not in the default action-day mode. File one if you want the record, or switch the company to daily mode in Settings.
- What counts as an action day? Outdoor shade tiers, high heat procedures, smoke voluntary tier and above, and federal Heat NEP thresholds for the site state.
- Does the site agent create logs on all-clear days? No. It refreshes forecasts and emails you when conditions change into an action day.
